The Big Pink Bus pulled into the campus of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill this morning and, almost instantly, the overcast gray skies gave way to sun breaks and spring air. Though we could only afford about a half an hour on the campus, we garnered many new petition signatures, handed out dozens of t-shirts and Proper Attire condoms.
Most students were aware of the impending budget battles, and those that weren’t were incredulous when they discovered how their family planning, annual checkup, cancer and STI screenings are being held hostage by anti-choice zealots in Washington.
We didn’t get to stay as long as we would have liked, but folks were glad to bring a little Planned Parenthood pink to Carolina blue. Yours truly, a Duke graduate, even donned a Carolina sweatshirt and got in the spirit..
