THOUGHTS FROM THE BUS

On Saturday, the big pink Planned Parenthood bus rolled into Ann Arbor, Michigan for the biggest rally yet of the tour. Over 400 enthusiastic supporters greeted the bus with open arms! The energy of the crowd was infectious. Over and over throughout the program, they chanted:

What do we want? Planned Parenthood!
When do we want it? ALWAYS!!!

This amazing event was emceed by Sarah Scranton, the powerhouse executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. The program kicked off with Lori Lamerand, the president/CEO of Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan, who highlighted the services that Planned Parenthood offers in the state, including a Medicaid-funded prenatal program that delivers 180 babies each year. Not many people know that eight of our affiliates, including Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan, offer prenatal care, and this program in Michigan would definitely be cut if Planned Parenthood were denied federal funds through the Pence Amendment.

Other fantastic speakers included Debbie Dingell, former Board Member and wife of US Congressman John Dingell, and Sinda Mills, a patient who spoke to the importance of Planned Parenthood’s preventive services. “Planned Parenthood saved my life!” she told the crowd. We are proud to stand with Sinda and the thousands of patients served in Michigan!

Our supporters continued on to a Walk for Choice, and the pink bus crew took a quick tour of the Ann Arbor health center before calling it a day. It has been an exhilarating journey these last few days, and we cannot wait to see what the next phase of this bus will bring. We do know one thing - the support for Planned Parenthood is everywhere, and you cannot stop the Power of Pink!!
