THOUGHTS FROM THE BUS

The Pink Planned Parenthood Truth Bus rolled into Englewood, NJ today for a rockin’ rally with 130 supporters at the health center on Van Brunt Street. So many supporters came out because there is broad public support for Planned Parenthood and the vital services we offer. Just walking through the crowd, I was approached by several women AND men who thanked us for being here, doing what we do every day. It was really an inspiring experience.

U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg joined us at the rally, and boy was he fired up! Speaking at the rally, he said, "Planned Parenthood is under attack by Tea Party Republicans who have put their extremist ideology above women's health. We're going to fight to make sure Planned Parenthood can continue serving the health care needs of families in New Jersey and across the country."

This event also really brought home the connection between the federal defunding fight and what is happening in the state legislature. Unfortunately, Michelle Jaker and the team at Planned Parenthood in New Jersey are all too familiar with cuts in family planning funding, and several local elected officials highlighted that point. Our patient Angela Giacchetti spoke about her own personal experience with Planned Parenthood as the only provider of medical care she was able to afford as a community college student. We closed out with a raucous call to action and over 100 people signed our “Stand with Planned Parenthood” postcards."
