It’s been quite a day for the Truth Team – starting in Pennsylvania, ending in Rhode Island, with a stop in New York in between.
We were greeted with a lot of snow and a lot of support when we pulled into Syracuse this afternoon. Before we could even get off of the bus, Clinton Square had turned into sea of pink t-shirts and signs, with Planned Parenthood chants soon to follow. Supporters of all ages and backgrounds (including nuns!) lined the street for a city block and cheered as cars passed by, honking in solidarity. The energy could be felt by all – the crowd of 120+ was strong, confident, inviting and informative. You could tell that this is an important issue to the people who live in the area.
Speakers included a staff member from Planned Parenthood Rochester/Syracuse, a patient, a student, and two clergy women, all speaking out in their own way about their compassion for Planned Parenthood. At one point in the rally, it was mentioned that Planned Parenthood has been in Syracuse for 90 years, to which a woman in the crowd replied, “I’ve been going there for 70 years.”
We stood together in Syracuse this afternoon to support the millions of women, men and teens in this country who turn to Planned Parenthood for care. Because, while we can’t stop in every town on this tour, we can still all stand united with each other.
Tomorrow morning we’ll be gathering at 111 Point St. in Providence, RI @ 9:00am to do it all over again. Please join us! If you need help finding it, here's a map.
