What a busy morning!
We just wrapped up today’s 8:30am rally in Toledo and are back on the big pink bus heading to our next destination: Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
The headlines today in Ohio were about the devastating state budget cuts – it’s a really rough atmosphere here. But our message seems to be breaking through. The economic argument that for every $1 dollar spent on preventive health services, tax payers save almost $4 definitely resonates with the community here.
We just left about 50 of our best supporters in Ohio — we had students from Bowling Green, people from Cleveland and we even heard that people came from Michigan. These young people were amazing – turning out before 8:30am while they are on spring break - WOW! One of our favorite supporters in attendance was Phil who had been board chair of Planned Parenthood in the 60’s. He and his wife Nancy have over 25 years experience as volunteer leaders for the Toledo affiliate.
It’s really cold out here in OH - we were right on the river - but we huddled together and gathered outside Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s office to thank her for her vote in support of Planned Parenthood and women's health. At one point, we all turned around and waved to Marcy Kaptur’s staff who were looking on from their office.
It is an amazing experience to be with the people in these communities who care so much about the health care that Planned Parenthood provides. It is energizing, inspiring and reminds me of why I am so proud and honored to work for this organization, with so many wonderful people.
